Shocking!

Only had my first full suspension bike (Marin Rift Zone 2006) a week. Three quaters of the way through my trail ride today I noticed that my pedals were starting to catch on bumps and rocks and stuff. I got off the bike to see if I could figure out what was wrong and to my horror my Fox float R rear shock was less than half extended.
Checked the manual when I got home and it seems that my shock is "stuck down" which means I will have to send it to mojo (and I wanted to ride this week :-( )
Anyway I was just wondering what might have caused this problem, is this likely to be a result of my riding or is it just a faulty shock?
Is there a limit too how much of a drop or jump shocks can take before this happens to them.? Is this normal?
Cheers

there seemed to be a few issues with the floats doing this. there is a test you can do to see if it is really stuck doen but i am not sure what it is. have a look on the fox webby."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

What i've heard is that a fair number of the float shocks do/did this. i think it was due to one of the seals being made from a different rubber, which sometimes failed and let air into the negative chamber of the shock. as a result the shock compresses but wont rebound. IIRC mojo will fix it for free, as fox have admitted it is a problem with the shock.</center>www.mtb-bitz.co.uk - Bitz for you & your mountain bike. pinkbike0

Yep its a fauly seal, the test is to just let all the air out and then the shock should remain stuck down regardless of how much air you put back into it.
It's an 06 shock i bet.Ibis Mojo SL-r0 -
Yes it was an 06 shock and it was the seal. Fair play to mojo though, I sent it on Monday and had it back on Wednesday!

it happened to my DHX 5 shock. its when air from the negative chamber leaks into the positive chamber and halves the travel.I said hit the brakes not the tree!!
