Proud of London and our boys

Just wanted to say I feel really proud of the 2 stages London hosted this weekend. London looked brilliant, huge crowds turned out and the Canterbury stage was a good stage with a classic end. Even the weather saw fit to sort itslef out for a couple of days!

Our boys did great too. Wiggins getting close in the prologue, Millars solo breakaway, a man on the podium and both positive and happy about the stages in the interviews afterwards. Shame cavo crashed but hey, at least it was a dramatic talking point!

I feel proud that we did our bit for this years race. I'll be catching them in the alps next week. Woohoo!

    Yep, well done London. 8)

Hmmm... the French come to town and we get warm weather and sunshine. Perhaps they should stay longer? :)

can we have the Tour AND the Sultan's Elephant back please?

two events in the last two years that have closed the roads and made Londoners happy and friendly and they're both French.

It was actually very moving both at the presentation, the prologue and watching the people all along the route of today's stage.
Thank you, ken and all the people of london and kent

  • I loved David Millar's comments after getting the Polka Dot Jersey - "I just wanted to say 'thank you' to everyone, it's just been such an opportunity, it was the one opportunity in my life to do that. It's been amazing, there were flags and my name painted out and everyone was just cheering my name, it was nice to hear 'David' being shouted out in an English accent and not 'Davide, Davide.' It was the first time I've had 'David, David' the whole road, so that was great, it was just like wonderful, it's a big 'thank you' to everyone for coming out and supporting us. It was a good day. The crowd was huge, insane. Everywhere we went people were supporting us racing."

Makes you proud to be British, proud to be a cycling fan, and proud to have stood on the side of the road.

I saw a couple of stages of the Tour in and around Bordeaux in 2003, but there is no comparison. The 2 stages we have just seen were historic, because of the British cycling fans (and non cycling fans) who turned up in such phenomenal numbers. I'm choked just thinking about it.

    Motorists do.
  • I thought the reception the British lads got as they passed was excellent. I couldn't imagine how Wiggins for instant felt going round. I was stood at Hyde Park Corner, and we could pretty much trace how far he was round the course by just the noise of cheering!

Gotta agree with all of the above. For a supposedly minority sport with limited credibility, the crowds that turned out were incredible. Everyone knew London would be busy but to see the numbers that came out and lined the entire course of stage 1 was fantastic. Having seen Premier Calander races on TV whose spectators ammount to 5 club riders + friends and families of the competitors, it was a sight to behold to see the million plus roadside today.

Props have gotta go to ITV and British Eurosport too. It's not everyday you can watch entire coverage of a stage. It could've been real boring with a five hour cruise and a 20sec sprint at the end but Millar livend things up from the offset. He might not have won but you can guarantee he's gonna get mentioned in every sports section tomorrow!

2 Brits in the top 5 and one of them holding a Tour jersey too. All in all it's been a blinding weekend. I'm definately proud to be British right now 8)

I loved Goughurst, seeing the leaders jump for the hill and smiling because I'd ridden up it the week before and although I might have been slower I think they were hurting the same..........
