Personal awards from the Prologue, observed at the Exhibition Road corner in Hyde Park:-
Best place for a Prologue - LONDON!
Best looking bikes - Cofidis
Maddest Team car driver - Cofidis (in the warmup, the squeal of tyres as they flew round the bend and had to brake to avoid the riders in front must have given them Tom Boonen shorts!)
Best looking rider (bike position-wise) - Paolo Savoldelli
Best spectator comment - there's Jan Ullrich! (vaguely redhaired T Mobile rider)
Most useful publicity caravan throwout - the Skoda sun hat (pity I didn't get one)
Most awesome rider - Cancellara
Most personally painful - a toss-up between sore feet and sunburn
Coolest police outriders - the Gendarmes - short sleeves, open-face helmets, you could almost see the Gauloise dangling from their lips, nonchalant cornering. Our guys - full high-vis, full-face helmets, cornering like they're in MotoGP
