Anyone got any band recomendations for me to download, completely open-minded when it comes to music, any genre, just want some new tunes to go on holiday with.

Bookwise; I like science-fiction, anything music related, horror that kind of thing, nothing huge, I can never be arsed with a long-read, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. Prefferably something that they'll sell at Waterstones at the Airport.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks.

What about music biographys.Good reads in my opinion lots of insight and interesting encounters.

New Kings of Leon is a good album and the Black Angels. Trouble is they make you want to go riding
  • children of bodom, disturbed, atreyu, metallica, pantera, mudvayne, rise against.

bookwise, maybe try perfume, by partrick suskind (the u has 2 dots on, being german)

  • Venetian Snares, Corrosion of Conformity, Boogie Down Productions, Tha Alkaholiks (21 & Over), Minor Threat, MDC, Dead Kennedy's........for a start, and varied too.

Bookwise i'd say Stephen Donaldson - The Gap Series (5 books) and Raymond E Feist - Magician/Silverthorn/A Darkness At Sethanon

    Enjoy
  • you dont wanna be asking me:P

Necrophagist, Morbid Angel and Opeth should get you going for music.

As for books, I would suggest Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Hannibal rising or anything by David Gemmell.

Somone who actually likes death metal? Thats a first. But i'm not sure most folk would qualify Necrophagist holiday music, I definately would though!
Check out (newer) Envy, Explosions In The Sky, Cult Of Luna, Isis. All quite chilled out.

Get yourself some Devin Townsend down your earholes. My personal favourites of his are, well, everything, but for a new guy to Dev I'd recommend Synchestra, Accelerated Evolution and Terria. His new solo album, Ziltoid the Omniscient, is completely fantastic but also completely bonkers. Top stuff.

    Music to holiday to...

Chemical Brothers - We Are The Night
    Grinderman - Grinderman
LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver
    Justice - Cross

For Sci-Fi - Peter F Hamilton's Pandora's Star. Sadly not a very short book but one of the best I've read for ages. Or..

Iain M Banks - Culture series
Orson Scott Card - Ender's Game (and series)
L Ron Hubbard - Battlefield Earth. Shit film and Scientologist perhaps, but a top top read.

Anything by Heinlien, AC Clarke, Asimov.

If you've read The Dark Tower series by Stephen King you could try The Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake - weird and dark as you like! Sci - fi and space opera doesn't get any better than Peter F. Hamilton -anything by him.

Music: QOTSA, ISIS, At The Drive In, Mastodon, Tool, Hot Cross, Devil Sold His Soul, Amplifier, Ghost Of A Thousand, Gallows - that should keep you going for a while!
I hate it when people say David Beckham's stupid...its not like anyone ever says: 'Stephen Hawking - he's s**t at football.' Paul Calf
  • Music:

    Monster Magnet
    Clutch
    High on Fire
    Mastodon
    Lightning Bolt

    Books

Try the Neuromancer trilogy by William Gibson: Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive.
Or the Bourne Trilogy - way better then the fims. Avoid the fourth one (Legacy). Rainbow Six is long but real popcorn stuff!

Music: Hybrid (anything by these as they are just the most amazing thing i've heard in a long time) look for the Morning Sci-Fi album.

I am Kloot (Northern band who make just good stuff)

Book: Walkers by Graham Masterton (Buy this book if you can find it) Its the most scarey book i have ever read. I read at least two books at a time & am a constant reader but man i could'nt sleep whan i read that.
Arrrghhh it's worse than i thought!!!!!

Books: If you like science fiction, go for the classics. Anything by Isaac Asimov will do.
