HI all,
Apologies if this has been asked before and i imagine it has many times but I am about to buy a bike very soon for a marathon and i need your advice. I am stuck between the choice of getting a hybrid bike or a MTB with slicks. I am looking to spend about £400-500.
I used to be a very active MTBer and rode off-road/cross country. This was 7 years ago! I am now ready to pick up cycling again to keep fit. I haven't done any off-road riding yet as i've been staying on the roads to slowly get back in shape. I will mainly be riding on roads but i dont want to rule out the occasional light off-roading.
I'm swaying more towards the MTB with slicks but I would want one with a good riding position. I notice a lot of the new MTBs have raised top tubes so they squeeze more travel from their suspension forks. I will change tyres and put straight handlebars on and barends.
My question is, if i am going to do that with a MTB am i better off going straight for a hybrid? And which MTB would you suggest for a good racing position?
Sorry for the long post

I don't think any MTB is gonna give you fantastic aero position.
But I would deffo go with mtb and slicks0
