I'm looking to get an XXS giant scr 3.0w.

I heard Decathlon are good but have never been to one of there stores or have I seen any of their kids bikes.

Nothing seems to appear on e-bay either.

Now for mountain bikes there are loads to choose from!!! I think Europe is a bit different, we have just had some friends over from Denmark and most of the tour de France riders are household names, I think a larger range of kids bikes are available over there.

Thanks isslabikes looks to be the best bet.May go for a tandem,could be fun.

Decathlon 7.0 24" wheel road bikes, 5 speed, downtube shifters, isn't bad and they're the cheapest in the market.

Our club has just bought 4 @ £61(!) each as they're selling them off in preparation for replacing them in AG2R colours (rumour has it).

They're heavier than Islabike equivalent, which is a 'cross bike and therefore more flexible. Other kids in the club use them with slicks on for circuit racing. Log on to Decathlonbikes, not the main Decathlon site which is badly designed.

Does anyone know if the decathlon is still available? I believe it is reduced to £32 and at that price it's worth a punt.

My daughter has an Islabike Beinn 26. I can vouch for the build quality and component selection.

Buy your kid a mountain bike unless you want it wearing nappies for the latter of it's existence.

Ive searched those decathlon 7.0 bikes on google but it only came up with ebay. Where else can you get it especially seeing that it might have been reduced to £32!

Only available from a Decathlon store. I'm going to give the Stockport store a call on Monday. I spoke to them a few weeks back and they are £32, they only had the display one available and would not sell it, they were not sure if they would get any more stock.

I've got a small Decathlon road bike that a club mate asked me to get for his daughter - and since I picked it up and paid for it, I've not heard from him and not been able to get hold of him!!

I paid £125 for it, it's brand new and sitting in my garage. Can post more details if you want.

I found an almost-new Ridgeback Comet on ebay, perfect road bike for my 8 year old who cycles five miles each day (the school run). I don't think Ridgeback make them any more. Before that we had a Dawes Galaxy which got nicked. The Ridgeback comet is better than the Dawes was.

I've got a feeling that the decathlon kids bike has been discontinued, with no replacement.

I've just got back from France, and despite trying several stores over there not one had one in stock, or any reference to it. Also no mention on the decathlon.fr website.

The bikes are geeting rebranded B-Twin, as each sport has its own brand name within decathlon, Btwin for bike stuff, Quecha for mountain/walking stuff. I think that they mave have dropped the road bike.

there is one on ebay at the moment, currently seeling for £102!!!

Just picked up the Decathlon 7.0 24 for £61 from Stockport, nearly snapped the chaps hand off when I saw it sat round the back.

Been out tonight with my son, really impressed, however it could do with higher top gear, he could easily get to over 20 on the flat and was in top gear for this with what looked like a reasonable cadence, is it worth changing the rear cassette?

Don't know why it is £61 again as thy have none left anyway???

Please make sure you child isn't pushing too big a gear if you change cassettes. They'll always have the temptation to put it in the 'fast gear' (and drop the cadence) to "keep up with dad". My knees are still giving me what is sometimes chronic jip from my childhood exertions trying to be Miguel Indurain (not that he's my dad). I used to ride the 5 miles school run, then change and go out for another 10 to 15. I now commute 200miles a week, but can only manage it if my cadence is high enough to stop my knees taking the brunt.......
On another note, it's nice to see that a kid is interested in having a bit of fresh air on two wheels instead of through the cars vent system....

He's now had a few rides on the bike, two 12-13 miles and one 7 miles, averaged just under 17 mph, hitting a max of 32mph - I still think he could do with a bigger gear for going down the hils and maybe a bigger range as well, but for now really pleased with the bike.

Gave me a reasonable work-out.

Oh and he fell off his brothers little bike playing in the garden - no helmet!!!!! He's now got a bump on his head, cut's over his face and put his teeth through his lip (blood everywhere) -poor fellow.
