Hi all, just registered.
I suppose I am looking for a little advice. I used to be into XC when I was a little younger and had a Kona Cindercone which I sold when I started learning to drive.
I am now looking at getting another bike and picking up riding again. I want to start off with a cheapish bike nothing to overkill and am not too sure what bike would be a good starting point. I want to spend a couple of hundred to start with but I have been out of the loop so long I dont know whats good and bad. Depending on how much time I have and how much I fall back into it I may upgrade again in the near future.
Cheers, Jamie.

Hi! Basically we're all new members on here. The owners went and merged a bunch of cycling forums and so this place is in a state of mayhem. It'll get sorted out with time but you can read about all that elsewhere on the forum.
Basically, on a tight buget, something like the Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc for £370 would be ideal. This is a really good frame and it can be upgraded when and if you need to. Untill you know what specific type of riding you want to get into (eg. downhill, cross country etc), then the hardrock is quite versatile.
Go to your local bike shop and they'll fill you in with what's good for you.0 -

If you've only got a couple of hundred, check out Decathlon if theres one near.
Dont forget theres other bits you'll want to budget for, starting with a helmet0 -
Are second hand bikes a sensible route as i have been having a look on ebay and i can get a rockhopper with discs for circa 250.
I won an item yesterday but didnt meet the reserve on a rockhopper for £260 :?

If you can wait ill the end of august, you'll be in the sale period when they're trying to clear stock, ready for the 2008 models.0

Thanks, if i wanted to buy new who are recommended as being the cheapest?
I have had a look on the net and evanscycles keeps coming up. On there they have some good deals but most of their cheap bikes are a couple of years old allready, will they come down even more.
Something like this has taken my fancy....

Of which they seem to be around £250 on ebay.
