Im having some trouble with the rear derailleurs on my bike, Its an shamino deore LX i think.
I have 9 gears on my rear wheel and when i put it into 7th (i think) it dosnt switch, then when i go to 8 it jumps from 6-8 and then from 8-7 and 7-8 as it pleases as im riding. However it doesnt do this when i put the bike upside down and just spin the pedals and theres no pressure on the "system" as it where. Any suggestions? :(

Are the end stops on the mech setup properly? How old is the chain? How old is the cassette?

Check your cables for gunk and tension.

At check your hanger alignment, jockey wheels and that the wheel is fitted correctly.

Right did some work and reajusted end points.
Now it seems to go 1-2 fine. 3-4 fine. BUt from 4-5 it seems to stay at 4 or skip to 6. then 7-8-9 is fine but sometimes it dosnt go from 9-8 but jumps from 9-7 when i switch to 7.
The bikes about 4 years old so thats probably a factor too. But i have no money to do repairs :( So anyone got any good bodge jobs they know of :P

right. it sounds like the cables do need replacing.

as the sus is working the friction between the inners and outers is causing the mech to move. if the cables are new then it will be poor routing or an outer some where is too short.

  • It may be worth cleaning your entire drivetrain first though. My '05 Kona did this for a bit until I attacked the chain and cassette with degreaser and then relubricated. Of course it may not work either... :?
