Planning on doing a bit more cross this winter, so have started practicing my dismount / remount, which is pretty appaling. I can't master the ride leg inside left leg technique, but watching some people, they just seem to swing the right leg over and jump off.

should I unclip the left foot before swinging the right leg over ? A step by step guide would be appreciated, or you could just come to the local park and laugh at me falling off like the local kids :(

I feel your pain Colin. Or rather I felt it last October when I tried to do one of those flying dismounts in a race and fell a*se over tit at the very first obstacle. It's one of those things that looks really easy when you're watching someone who knows how to do it. I said I would go to the local park and practise it beforehand but the trouble is finding a time when there are no kids around to laugh at you...

    Hi Colin.

Just practice, that's all. I never went with the right leg inside the left thing either.

The point where my right leg has come across and is swinging forward to met the left leg is exactly the point where I'm unclipping the left leg anyway - so there's no point bringing the right leg inside.

My right leg hits the ground first, but only just. You also have to hit the ground running, so I'm pushing off into the first stride as soon as my foot hits the ground.

Practice, practice and practice. My winter commute went along a canal, with about a dozen gates to go through - every gate was a full speed dismount - no brakes! I'd start a little slower and build up though.

    Cheers, Andy

ps This has also helped my triathlon dismounts, but it's a bit more more painful as I'm barefoot at that point...

I can't do those dismounts either, but I need to learn for triathlon.

Dammit. I've never been able to do that scooting along thing.
