Dont think there are any budget long haul flights, but you can get pretty cheap fares with BA or Virgin as long as you book well in advanceMBUK0

there aren't really long haul budget airlines (who save money by increasing the number of seats and flying to smaller airports) I'd try United, BA & Virgin - book as far in advance as possible0

Cheers. I'm not after "budget" airlines, but dont want to pay the £550 advertised prices.Advocate of disc brakes.0

Few months ago a return to New York was £250, you can probably get it close to thatMBUK0

Indeed, I got a return to new york with accommodation for 5 days for £4350

I stayed at a hotel for that price:)
it was a couple of blocks back from the north end of central park in a 'kinda' dodgy area - but not bad at all - neither of us got mugged at least
All booked a package through expedia (IIRC) and I've just remembered we flew Air India...0 -
As a very general rule of thumb, flights to the USA tend to be cheapest around october and february. It was £250 return a few months ago because of seasonal variations. It will drop again, but in the off-season.
Expedia is your friend, although you'll probably end up Air France-ing it via Paris. Enjoy :?0 -

Looks in any Sunday paper travekl , they are stufed full of adverts for agencies offering low cost flights, you shuld be able to pick up a flight for £300-350 return by trying few places.0

Received an email off BA the other day stating 45% off selected troutes, so they may be worth a try.0

Have a look at Icelandair. They do routes via Reykjavik to New York with a long enough stop to go to the Blue Lagoon for a soak. They're meant to be fairly cheap.

There are no true budget long haul airlines.
Look on the opodo and travel bag websites.
Avoid Eastern European, (former) Russian and African airlines - forever! Otherwise there's not very much difference, go by price and forget the name of the airline.
Having said that BMI and KLM have always been reasonable I find. I think Emirates are the best airline. BA is good but overpriced. Try BMI first.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -
