Hi, after riding at many scottish mountain bike routes, my Dad has decided he would like to upgrade his suspension because right now his manipoo forks are not much better than rigids.
Here is a pic and spec of the bike:

Would it be possible to put a 100mm fork onto the bike as it comes standard with 80mm without causing any damage?
I have quickly come together with a few forks that are the sort of thing he is looking for:
Rock Shox Reba Race Dual Air & Poploc 2007

Marzocchi MX Pro ETA
www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=13461
Manitou R7

What fork do you think would be best for a Trek 6500 for cross-country but still capable of more agressive stuff at places like glentress?
Replies greatly apperciated.

what budget? as you have 3 really different prices there0

Sorry, forgot to mention price. Was looking at under £350 preferably.

It will be fine with 100mm, but probably no more as this would alter the geometry of the bike. The Reba's you link to would be more than capable.0

100mm is fine. I would go for the rebas, was going to do that myself but havent been using the HT enough so settled for cheaper Toras (100mm). Think you can still get rebas for about £225 from Merlin Cycles.0

Go with the rebas , great forks.___________________________________________________________

Thanks for all the replies guys. Looks like reba's are the best to go for.

My Dad has decided to go with the Reba's, but which model should he go for?

As for fitting the forks, is it as easy as removing the standard forks and fitting the new ones?

I would go for the reba race, but to be prefectly honest it won't make much difference which of these you chose. The Reba dual air forks are exceptionally light and having separate +ve and -ve chambers lets you set up ride and sag to suit. It may take a little time to dail in the settings perfectly, but i found them very good straight out of the box.
The poploc is something you could actually do without quite easily, I prefer a less cluttered cockpit and the compression/lockout lever on top of the fork leg is in easy reach anyway. However it is much cheaper to buy with the fork than to add later.
Don'tforget to budget for a reasonable shock pump, cheap ones are not easy to use because the dials are so small.
One thing to be aware of if you are used to spring forks is that air forks tend to ride a little differently, thay can be more lively. This is not a bad thing, but I would recommend borrowing a bike with a similar fork to try before you buy.
Fitting is fairly straightforward, but take care if you need to cut the steerer tube to make sure it is square and free from burrs. There is an excellent guide on the park tools website if you need more help http://www.parktool.com/repair/bikemap.asp
