Mattie
Posts: 6,680
Dropped the car off at 12 to get a new clutch fitted.
It went into the workshop at around 2, nearly 4hours later. Includes faffing about with the gearbox being out of line.
Total bill comes to Two hundred and Seventeen quid.

Claim off the insurance, get a new one?
You'll have to Do A Mattie™ with that one first though.0 -

I've just spent a few hundred on annoying niggling maintenance things on my car too. Silly things wearing out!0

Been driving a bit too enthusiastically mattie?
Having a 10-year old car in britain is FTL. I've got to get a new sump fitted, new CV joints and strip and fill the rusting arches on my Almera.
Less gears, more beers.0 -
When I went to pick the Golf up, Olly showed me the original clutch.
The rivets were being burnt away!5612

£200? Ha! take that to my work and you'll be expected to pay for atleast a days labour. Oh and don't count on getting your car back the same week.0

Hang on. You dropped the car off at 12 and it went to the back at 2?

Try having a 36 year old car....
Since buying it 3/4 weeks ago I've already replaced the water pump, rewired various parts, replaced the brake calipers, replaced the exhaust. Now one of the wheels is rubbing like mad so I've got to relocate the axle, then buy an Anti-tramp kit and Panhard kit to keep the damn thing in place.....
Oh, on top of that I've also got to somehow wire up the reverse lights, which means dropping the gearbox to get to the switch and then put it through it's MOT to go on Manx plates....0 -
Mine is 16 years old, still runs sweet.0
-
that really isn't *that* bad actually - was about the same for my A3 (and your old clutch sounds like it was in a similar condition to mine )0
-
i hope they skimmed the flywheel if it was warn from the rivots against it as it will be orite for a while but start to slip prematurely due to an uneven flywheel surface
and if you resent that try the 6k i spent on my fiesta rs turbo when i restored the thing it only came off the road cause the turbo seals had failed but after a full engine rebuild upgraded turbo and gearbox and then modifying a whole heap of parts for it it all soon adds up i have to say though with over 200 bhp it was an animalHuddersfield dh scene
