extremely tight gear cables

Hey guys
First post on new forum......
I Have had some problem with the SRAM X - Gen front derailleur whereby the cable pulls incredibly tight, At first i thought it was that the outers were too short as it would cause them to bend outwards and kink, thus making them useless!
I noticed that possibly the cable bolt was pushing against the side of the mech stopping it moving freely, Have i bashed it or is it supposed to be this close
It seems to be working OK now with the flying snakes on but it took a few attempts and I'm worried that it will do it again 5 mins into the next ride?!
Any Ideas, it seems pretty wierd to me?!?!
