The white is honestly giving me a headache. It needs more verity, if only varying shades of grey.

They've disabled html in signatures...but am not sure why. The look of this forum isn't up to much is it.
  • First post here and does seem a bit bright!

Do we all get on over here or can I expect a regular bitch fest like the one I've just left behind?

Im wondering why the Site Admins have done absolutely nothing about fixing this forum, it takes less than 10mins to fix these irritating issues that everyone is having. It really doesnt take any effort to setup phpbb boards and add a couple of quick mods such as quick reply.

It's mostly because Future Publishing has an image it would like to present. Or, at the very least, it must approve the corporate image put forward by all its departments.
So the original design of this site was approved by whoever it was at Future who is responsible for this (let's call them the Image Dept.).
Now we want the forum changed. What happens is the users essentially give very vague and conflicting reports of exactly what's wrong and what needs changing. This is picked up by the editorial guys who pass it on to the dev teams. What the dev teams then do is work out how they can implement this, and once they have a test one running they arrange to see the Image Dept. to discuss whether it's good enough. If it's correct (which it rarely is) they can release it. If it isn't (which is likely) they can go away and tweak it, then bring it back.
But while they're going through the cycles of tweaking and testing, they're being fed new instructions on other things that need changing, and of course they've still got their normal duties of getting the rest of the site up and running and secure, the editorial guys are still working on the content (rather a busy time for them anyway) and the rest of the company is still doing their normal jobs.

This, unfortunately, is not a forum run by a single person from his bedroom. It is the public face of a fair proportion of a rather large publishing house.
