Do you find that grease finds it's way out of the axle between the the black plastic collar and the metal bit ?

Is this normal because I'm finding it's coming out more and more nowadays and have developed a creak from that pedal when I stand out of the pedals and push hard.

Hope this makes sense ! :?:

  • I bougt an OEM pair off ebay the other day as I have grown to hate my Egg beater/Road shoe combination that in a moment of misguided lust I shelled out for.

So far so good, did 75 miles on them on Sunday Brum to Oxford and have ridden to work all this week with no issues.

The "creak" you're getting I found to be the pedal requiring tightening in to the crank arm a little tighter than my first attempt.

No sign of extruding grease yet.

Yes, I have some grease coming around mine. One of mine developed an anoying clicking sound on every rotation, so i took the axle out, and shoved some more grease in. I was surprised to find no bearings on the edge near the fixing, what a poor design, but then looking at the shimano site, none of them do.

Someone has replied to me via email, and he went through 3 pairs of 105's before upgrading to Ultegra. Mine are going back to lbs for a swap......

i had a pair of 105 SPD-SL, lasted 600 miles and 1 wet ride (Dartmoor Classic Sportive), the grease forced it's way past the seals and play developed in the bearings. I returned them to my LBS only 2 weeks after purchasing them and upgraded to the new Ultegra (6620), they are a great improvement.

Same as GB1, did about 1500 miles on a pair of 105s and found them to really deteriorate. Bought some new Ultegra SPD SLs 6620 and found them a vast improvement. I suppose you get what you pay for!
