Good lord, whatever next?

I would put good odds on getting a few of these over the next week or so.

Kessler was one of the riders which didn't survive the T-Mobile spring clean... good call, I'd say.

  • I really wish they wouldn't release names until after the B samples are tested.

This is his own team which has released it - as was the case with Landis last year.

    This is my bike:

Who released the name? It seems that the rider has been suspended until the B test so the team must have had to say something. Or was that a unilateral decision on behalf of Astana?

I guess the problem is that names leaked anyway...

They have to do that because the PT ethical charter says anyone under investigation for dopage must be suspended.

This A / B situation needs to be improved. A positive A should trigger a B test at a different lab, IMO. None of this asking for it nonsense or whatever.

I am not too sure of the mechanics of testing or the timescale between A and B test but surely the names should not be released until the B sample proves the accuracy of the a sample. Best to be absolutely clear....

    Having said that Astana ??

Kessler was one of the Pro Tour Bully boys from last years Tour of Britain, sure i read somewhere he almost deliberately ditched one of the British riders. What goes around comes around.

    cheers

I don't know; Just sounds like Astana making a publicity <s>stunt</s> statement...[:(]

Interesting how it is Kessler (perhaps a hidden code to Kloeden to toe the line in the TDF????)

Was it Kessler who very artistically went over his handlebars a couple of years ago ?? 10/10 for style.

  • I'm inclined to agree with Mr.Bumble. There's a good profile about Astana coming out in the free Tour guide with the Guardian this Monday (2nd July). - Including a "what cheese would you be" section. Can you guess what Astana would be..?

Yes, and it was pretty spectacular too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgON4cFYWdU
  • Actually Kessler's had two fairly spectacular crashes in the Tour. It was him that went down hard and hit the fence post on the stage from Limoges to Saint Flour on Bastille Day in the 2004 Tour.

Seem to recall it was on the descent of one of the (many) hills that day, and he shot of to the right, into a ditch and out the Tour with a broken collarbone.

Obviously Astana didn't have enough warning to get him into the team bus and out of reach of the testers...

  • UCI anti-doping representative Anne Gripper told German daily newspaper Handelsblatt: "It's rather likely that Astana will be excluded from the Tour. Nevertheless we have to wait for what Kessler's B probe might reveil," said the Australian.

So maybe no Vino again. Why the blanket team punishment though.

I spoke to Anne Gripper an hour ago about this. She said it's nonsense and she said no such thing.
