Every time I do a long ride I'm passed by riders who appear to have no kit with them, my saddle bag often weighs 3kg+, What can I leave behind ?

Kit list:

spare tube
spare tyre
puncture outfit
pump
multi tool
reading glasses( yes I'm as blind as a bat without them )
gel pack (tastes orible)
drink powder
waterproof
wallet
inhayler
bandage and a couple of plasters
phone
camara

OK I could leave the camara but I want to record my long rides, Do the other riders just hope I'll be on hand when they have a problem?

Ditch the spare tyre, take some pieces of gaffa tape instead for repairs if the trye splits, it'll get you home.

Multi-tool, don't need all of those keys

Ditch drink powder and gel pack. Take a couple of bannanas

Don't need plasters, they come off when you pedal.

    That's what I'd do[:D]

None of that looks like it should add up to more than 3kg in total, so I reckon you need to ditch the saddle bag and attachments as that must be adding weight.
Maybe try a small backpack for the essentials?
A lot of it should squeeze in your back pockets plus a little under saddle pack for multi-tool and a spare inner tube. I wouldn't carry a spare tyre as you are carrying a mobile and a wallet which will save you in the event of an unusual failure.

People will still pass you though [:)]

In my mini under saddle bag I have a spare tube, 2 levers, a couple of patches and some glue. In my jersey, a small freezer bag containing; mobile phone, a credit card and some money. I then carry a waterproof or gilet depending on the predicted weather. If I am out for a few hours, I will carry a banana and maybe an energy bar.

    Ditch:

    Spare tyre
    Puncture outfit
    Drink powder
    Gel pack
    Bandages, etc
    Phone

    Add:

    Tyre levers
    Sunglasses/lenses

    Consider:

    Minimal multitool
One card + cash instead of wallet
Gilet instead of waterproof (except rarely)
    Smaller saddle bag

Ditch the tyre and carry a Tyre Boot instead. Weighs about 5g!

My seatpack weighs 900g (it's sad that I just weighed it) and I'll do 200km rides with that (although it doesn't contain any food and I'm usually wearing the waterproof!).

When I'm trying to lose weight, I ditch the wallet and just place a card some notes and coins in a little watertight polythene bag.

If I had a baby elephant, who would take it for walks?
  • Ditch the camera and get a mobile phone camera instead.
