Trek 1200 2001. Appropriate commuting bike?

I've been offered, for œ200.00 or so a Trek 1200 year 2001. As the vast majority of my cycling is commuting, do any of you guys out there think it would do the job, it's looks brilliant, but I don't know if it might be a bit 'racey' if you know what I mean. Any advice gratefully received.

    ...I own a Trek 1200(2002 vintage), it is still my best bike and would be excellent for commuting...buy it œ200 is a good price...
    ...all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...
