Encouraging cycling

  • What wimps - no North Walian cyclist would get out of his big ring for such a meagre bump.

Why do they need a lift? Not exactly the Col du Galibier, is it?

  • On a more serious note, and in responce to the thread title, we need to start early.
When I was a nipper, rather cleverly the teachers got the older kids to promote cycling into school as "cool" to us youngsters.
Result: everyone signed up for the cycling proficiency scheme (it was a requirement to be allowed to cycle in) and no one would dare get a lift in with Mum, how "sad" would that have been?[:)]
It really worked, and my generation still houses a vastly greater number of cyclists than average because of it.

    Wheelies ARE cool.

  • Hi ComicGirl. Will you stop actively suppressing debate on death cameras and join Safe Speed with me? For each minute that goes by without you doing so, there is unfettered carnage on the roads as a result.

Now that is just odd. Very slow and doesn't look very safe. Novelty value only.

I think it's very innovative and imaginative. Although the same thing could be done on a longer ascent with a folding bicycle and a bus.

The slope is as steep as 1 in 5 in places.

Although not designed for cyclists, the cliff lift at Saltburn, Cleveland, is very useful for cutting out the steep hill.
