There is an annoying creak from bottom rear part of my bike - the chainset area. My bike is a 8 year old ribble. I have replaced the bottom bracket and checked for any signs of th ewelds giving way. The click / short creak is only there when I am pressing firmly on the pedals. It is not there if i just cruise. It is really annoying, any suggestions?
Many thanks
JJ
with this sign off, do you think i will win the sign-off of the month prize?

Try copper slipping the pedal threads.0

..or tightening the chainring bolts?I'm not saying pedestrians in Hackney are stupid.. but a fixed bayonet would be more use than a fixed gear...0

Give the frame a thorough clean and make sure it isn't cracked either - you creaking could be the movement of a crack under load. Check particularly on the underside where the chainstays join the bottom bracket, or the seat tube/BB junction.0

my bike always creaks after i clean it.....bloody spokes!! takes em a while to settle. my creak on my old bike was a new chain on a worn chainring. only happen under load.

I had this problem. I checked everything I could think of on the bike. It turned out to be due to worn Look cleats allowing unwanted movement of my shoes on the pedals.

I've had the same thing and after weeks of checking the frame the BB and chainset found mine to be the saddle creaking in the seat post and causing an echo down the seat tube."Let your life rule your job, not your job rule your life"

Despite a conviction that the ruddy creak was coming from the headset area , a bronze grease of the the pedal's threads ( into the crankarms ) cured it in an instant ."Lick My Decals Off, Baby"0

what is this bronze grease and where do you get it?0

Excuse me . In actual fact I meant the copper coloured stuff : Copper Grease ! Near enough the same colour .
A search has brought up this link for example : http://www.motormania.co.uk/product_det ... rer=&Code=
But any engineers suppliers would have it I expect . Probably Halfords . Maybe B&Q . Screwfix etc.."Lick My Decals Off, Baby"0 -

Had the same problem. Tried everything. It turned out to be a chainset bolt not tight enough. Hope this is of help.0

check it isn't being referred from the cassette through the chain stays - happened to me (albeit on a steel frame).0
