I've just been reading the TdF Cyclosportive guidance and it seems our pride-and-joys will be chucked into some lorries for transport back to London.

I'll pop down to the DIY shop for some foam tubes and bubble wrap this week, but does anyone have some top tips for protecting your bike under such circumstances?

Cheers!

I've seen bikes being stacked inna van for the return from the Dun Run. It was a terrifying sight and I was glad I hadn't brought my lightweight bike with coke can tubing..[:0]
Pipe lagging and bubble wrap will do the job, don't forget to protect your mech and it might be as well to whip your pedals off (in fact, why don't they make that a condition of taking the bikes in the first place, seeing as it's the pedals that cause most of the damage?). Perhaps get some cardboard to cover your spokes. But, my toppest of top tips? Make sure your bike goes on top...[^]
Do enjoy the event though. [:D]

Yeah the transport generally doesn't have much sympathy for peoples' pride and joy.

Suggest pipe lagging, tied with cable ties will do the trick in protecting the frame and seem to be the least hassle free.

Agree that using those pipe lagging tubes you can buy from B&Q are the best thing, but don't forget the rear mech and the chainrings, I found the best thing to do is unbolt the rear mech and wrap it in a ton of bubble wrap then tape the whole thing between the rear stays, which gives it a bit of crush protection, also I tape a piece of cardboard over the chainrings.
