Picked up 2 lovely touring bikes, OK, not the most original but both 5speed and in need of TLC. One is unnamed tubing destined to be ss/fix hack; other is a lovely blue Falcon Olympic 531 w/chrome forkends (pity chrome in a bad state).

Can the Falcon be upgraded to modern comp, ie., ergo?
Theres numerous rust spots on frame+forks, don't think its worth treating so needs respray. Recommendations in Manchester area pls?

If anyone wants the Weinmann, Shimano, Mafac, Rigida bits after l finished, just PM me.

If you want a proper job done you won't better Bob Jackson, not in Manchester but not far off in Leeds.

Better than Bob Jackson and closer too is Atlantic Boulevard in Bury. The question of upgrade comes down to resetting the rear drop-outs to take a moden 130mm hubs - as a 5 speed, yours is probably 126mm. This is a simple 'cold-setting' operation. Neil at Atlantic will be able to advise you on what's possible.

JC, Jackson paints are nice but too nice for this frame!

I was not satisfied with my Bob Jackson. The paintwork is the not good. Luckily the bike is my road bike, which I only use in the summer on nice days. Even so, it has rusted slightly. The paintwork is fragile to say the least. Lovely ride though. I like the frame, but I don't understand why everyone raves about their paintwork.
