Saddle sore(s)

I've been doing lots of miles in preparation for the raid Pyrenean, and have developed "infected pores" in my groin area. Now before aqnyone calls me "grubby", I have been cleaning the area before and after riding to work (25 miles EW)clean shorts each time (ie one pair am, one pair pm) and applying surgical spirit and talc. Now I only have 1 week to go and the Doctor has no answer, says I am doing everything she can think of. Anyone else got any experience ideas? I don't fancy 4 really sore days in the (possibly) heat of the South of France.
Cheers

    Hello Moonie

I've experienced something similiar. Last summer (before I used padded shorts) and this summer when I bought a new bike and was adjusting to new saddle. Sadly I don't have a quick solution for you but sympathise as it so annoying and can naturally reduce your enjoyment of cycling. ( Especially with your trip to France so close ) Mine healed after many weeks. I used an anticeptic daily ,fresh air when around the house (with sensible discretion be assured !)and had to be patient. I cycle daily and couldn't stay off the bike which I felt gave less time for the body/skin to recover.
Fortunatly time did heal and i just had to stay mentally positive thru the time of cycling discomfort.
    Good luck in France[8D]

HAve you tried pure vaseline - soothing but a s*d to wash out of shorts - or a mild cortisone cream? Perhaps you have a fungal infection (from too much cleanliness!?). MAybe a nappy rash cream from Boots would help. Either way teh skin will take a while to heal. Have a great raid and air teh 'area' as often as you can

Germolene antiseptic cream always does the job for me; severe lumpy sores disappear within 2 days, as does chafing etc.

    Well worth a try.,..

  • I have been plagued with saddle sores on and off for the last 2 seasons whilst struggling to find an agreeable postion on the bike. I have tried a lot of remedies and have even had to resort to antibiotics. The most effective thing for me has been Tea Tree Oil which I have just started to try. It is readily available from chemists. Hope this helps.

Instead of expensive Assos, go to boots and buy nappy cream. You want the purple pot with zinc and castor oil. It is the business.

For starter I'd lay off the talc. Can irritate and cause allergic reactions too.

  • keep up the surgical spirit dump the talc you're just blocking the pores with it.they will eventually burst and that really is something to enjoy!
the treatment room nurse told me some years ago to avoid any creams in that area, just use the surgical spirit CAREFULLY and wear good shorts, washed after every ride
once they have burst (by themself or with a little persuasion) avoid the surgical spirit untill the skin is healed, unless you like intense pain that is!.
