Tyre cuts

What is acceptable when a cut in a tyre is found? I have a nearly new (210 miles!) Schwalbe Blizzard Pro with a 1/4 inch cut on the overlap of the coloured tread and the sidewall. The rubber on the sidewall has just lifted away from the kevlar sidewall and on the main tread it's down to the black rubber underneath...should I replace this or is it ok to keep riding with it?

One more turn of the wheels...just one!

As long as it's only the tread's that's cut and not the tyre casing, then it should be OK. If "down to the black rubber underneath" you mean the inner tube and it's almost bursting out, then you'll prob need to put a patch made from an old piece of tyre on the inside of the tyre.

It's definitely not through the casing completely - I mean it's through to the black rubber underneath the outer red 'tread' section.

I got a 6mm cut into a near new Gatorskin..that was up to maybe a thousand miles ago.
It has caused a 'lift' around the damage, but seems to hold itself together.
I always ask myself why replace it when i'm cycling locally, but often think what about the longer runs. That said, its survived a good few 40 milers.
