26" race rims

I'm doing a restoration job on an old roadster that used to have 26*1 1/4 rims. The front rim is 32 hole, the old rim is rusted to the point of cracking. the rear rim is a massive 40 hole (hub geared so central dishing, massively overly strengthened) I's heavy with rust but I don't think rusted through, I'd rather a replacement but could fix it up - probably.

Does anyone know where I can get a 26*1.25 rim with 32 or 40 holes, or failing that a thin 26" rim?

That's standard MTB size, isn't it?

That's the one, though apparently they were once used for roadsters and are now used for touring.

  • The 26 which you have will almost certainly NOT be the same diameter as a modern 26 mtb wheel! Old 26ers were 590mm and mtbers 559mm.

  • PS Decent alloy old 26x1 1/4" rims/wheels come up occasionally on e.g. ebay.
