Looks like Cooke and Raleigh are turning the screw. Is Vos not riding?

Catherine Hare has got the mountain jersey.

In fact of the other teams competing, the next highest ranked in the current World Cup standings are Vlaanderen-Caprisonne - and they're lying 13th. So an awful lot of top women are not riding. No wonder Nicole's team seem to be walking all over the opposition and are holding 1st, 2nd and 3rd on GC.

I wonder why Nicole's team are there if all the rest of the top teams are elsewhere?

I saw this race a couple of years ago. It's VERY low key, you wouldn't know it was taking place unless you happened by chance to be in the finishing town (which I was that day).

`I wish there was some women's bike races up North...[:p]

and if they were low key you might stand a chance of finding them in your cafe.....[:p][:D][:I]
  • It's so low key, they even started in my home village of Vif a few years ago.

There seems to be some confusion over who won the final stage, but job done for Cooke.

In the past, it used to shadow the men's race. I remember 1988 on the Puy de Dome seeing Maria Cannins (in the Polka Dot jersey) beat Jeannie Longo (in yellow).

These two came up as fast as many of the men that day!

Different organizers and sponsors nowadays I bet. Perhaps it says something about the state/status of womens racing in France, but Italy is the place for womens racing, which is why the Giro Donne is possibly the top womens stage race.
