New Tiagra

I've heard 2007 Tiagra is as good as the old 9 speed 105, has anyone got both to compare. I don't really want 10 speed on my distance bike so it's a choice between new 105 on my good bike and shifting all the old 9 speed 105 kit down to my distance bike, or buying a new 2007 tiagra groupset for my distance bike, this would have the advantage in that I would be all 9 speed. any advice would be appreciated.
