Black plastic protector disk on Mavic Aksiums

Hi,

I've received a bike through mail order (Giant TCR C2) and the back wheel has a 6" black plastic disk against the spokes, between them and the gears. I've never seen it before, but the bike shop assured me it was standard practice. Is that correct? In photos of the bike on various websites it is never shown.

Bike is plain stock Giant, with Mavic Aksium wheels. But the shop obviously put it together as it wasn't delivered in bits in a Giant box.

Seemed odd on a relatively high-end bike.

Thanks.

I got my new bike with Aksiums last week and that certainly didn't have a plastic disk on it.

    Cheers

  • its a spoke protector. meant to protect spokes if the chain slips behind the cassette.

    get rid of it

  • When I bought a bike a couple of years ago the salesman told that the warranty is invalid if the disc is removed. I removed it anyway just thought I'd let you know..
