does anyone out there own a tommasini steel frame??? how are they? and where can you buy them from. struggling to find a UK dealer.... also can you get a frame with braze ons on the back so a pannier rack could be attached??
I want to get a top quality italian steel frame and with pegoretti not taking orders anymore i am looking at tommasini now but can anyone reccomend other Italian steel frames that are equally delicious?[:)]

  • ColinT - there is a second hand Laser in about your size (58 cm centre to centre) for sale in Sigma Sport in Hampton Wick at the moment.

Might be worth giving them a call.
  • Sluke - the UK importer is listed here. He sells direct I think, I had a brief chat with him a year or two ago when I was considering getting their Ti frame.

I very much doubt they'd do braze ons for a rack as they make, like most Italian manufacturers, racing frames. They do, in my experience, get a bit sniffy about things like that.

Other Italian manufacturers that are still building in steel off the top of my head are Casati (as Colin mentions above and they make beautiful bikes), De Rosa, Gios, Scapin and Colnago.

yes I was thinking of one of the Laser myself, to me nicer than the carbon Laser and last year's colours had much cleaner lines too.

    Lovely [:D]

    Simoncini would.

I love the fillet brazed Casati Linea Oro. If I become wealthy enough to be able to almost justify it against feeding three 3rd world families for a year, that's what I would get.

Tommasisn will build you pretty much anything you want, and if that includes rack eyes, they'll put them on.

Talk to Malcom (the importer) - a really nice bloke who's been the importer for years. He helped me a great deal when I wanted to get my Super Prestige resprayed and looked after everything.

I would buy another (and another, and another) Tommasisn in a heart beat. The ride is the best of any bike I've owned and the workmanship is first class.

OK OK so let's do some comparison choices here. If you had the cash and wanted a carbon frame and a steel frame what would you choose?

Carbon - De Rosa Idol vs Tommasini Evol

Steel - Casati Laser vs Tommasini Tecno Steel or Sintesi

Ooh choices choices. Would be nice to hear your opinions guys.

Well actually I have a Tommasini Tecno Columbus EL oversize frame.
Have said before that I have ridden nearly everything in my time and at present also have a Litespeed titanium frame that I have delegated to 2nd place.
The Tommasini feels about the same but I get more "feel" of what I am doing on the road. The Litespeed is a little more smooth but mising the "feel" of the road.
Weight difference is not that large.
So I prefer to use the Tommasini for road use and use the Litespeed as a commuter.
