Now that I've got my new foska water bottle, can anyone recommend a bottle cage that won't scratch the graphics every time the bottle is withdrawn and replaced.

http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/details.a ... CXBOTC0250 I think are meant to be kind to bottles.

Or http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... 5360012969 maybe

Use the normal gel button Ciussi ones myself, still scratches bottles but not too much. By the time they're too scratched they need chucking and replacing anyway.

Tacx Tao is an excellent cage in general but it has got some sharp edges to scratch the bottle. These could be filed down, though.

Come on guys, bottles are, to a lesser or greater extent, another consumable item on a bike, they get used, dropped, fly out of cages if you are unlucky, chucked in cars, washed in bleach, and every couple of years new ones are needed.

I've certainly never looked at anyone and thought "my, that bottle is tatty".

besides, a lot of it isn't the cage, but the quality of the bottle IMHO, and my vote goes to Tacx bottles and Elite Ciussi cages, but the really cheap 7 nasty cages on my winter bike don't scratch bottles either.

Do get the Tacx cage if you care more about having a cage that grips the bottle well and prevents rattles, rather than what your bottle looks like.

agree with Pete. Avoid carbon bottle cages unless you really really do have more money than you know what to do with.

and never put an alu bottle in an alu bottle cage on an alu bike. you'll rattle like a colorado snake[:(]

if i had a better signature, i'd use that instead

I have the reverse problem!

My Ciussi bottle cage, colour coded for my 'dale graphics, has worn away where the bottle has vibrated! There are huge bare aluminium sections on it.

Mind you, it is on an mtb so it must be the grinding paste that gets between the bottle and the cage, less of a problem on a road bike.

Happy cycling, John

• The Tacx Tao is a great cage, I've wasted stacks on carbon cages which always seems to break on me, and are only fractionally lighter than the tao

I want one of these !! http://www.ciclicasati.it/italiano/foto_laser.htm
• Tacx Tao here + Tacx bottle. Had it a few months and it seems fine. Grips the bottle tightly without rattles and its easy to insert/remove the bottle. I've read reviews where people say the plastic stop at the bottem of the cage breaks. I think those people must be pushing their bottles in hard and breaking the stop off. I find the cage grips the bottle so tight it does not need to hit the stop. The edges are a bit sharp and I think my bottle has lost some of the graphics but luckily I dont care about that.

Tacx Tao here too.
I have colour coded Minouras on the winter trainer. The Taos are much better and came recommended from the shop.
They use them on their team bikes - as do other teams.

Great, solid, rubberised finish, holds the bottle well.
Not terribly aero - but that doesn't bother me.

One of the plastic mounting fixings broke on my Tacx after a couple of weeks. Also, I hand't realised when I bought it, but I think you need to use 'Tacx-shaped' bottles, which are probably tapered towards the bottom - a normal bottle wouldn't fit.

Another vote for the Planet X carbon cages here. Nice and light, look good, good price for carbon (œ20) and most importantly do the job well. They hold the bottle well and are easy to find. Carbon is actually a good material for bike cages as they can have a nice amount of spring built into them and unlike plastic cages (e.g. Specialized) they do not wear down where the bolts go through. they will scratch your bottles like any other cage though.

I just don't want my new Wales flag bottle to get ruined like the old one. Having said that Jonathan M has a point, I've been using the old one for a good couple of years and there may well be an organism or two multiplying in it by now so it's a good thing father's day brought me a replacement!!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

• I thought it was time to change your bottle when there was another free one on the front of a cycling magazine, I know that's when I changed mine...
