My bottom bracket is a bit wobbly mostly on the right (chainring) side. Could I tell that I need a new one or I just need to tighten it? Is it common that wears out or gets loose from the right (chainring) side?
Thanks

  • yes and no. I've worn a couple in the last year and they both went on the non-drive side.
it is very normal for one side to go first though

I think any play in the bottom bracket bearings would be equally noticeable on either side. Tightening the cups won't get rid of the play, and modern (catridge) bearings can't be adjusted.

Yes - you need a new one. If you do it yourself, remember the thread differences - r/h thread for r/h side (chain) and l/h thread for l/h side. Same with pedals [;)]

Any play = replace it. I don't think the sealed type can be tightened to remove play?

They can't, though the cup might just be loose (or the crank may be loose on the spindle).

Either way, a new BB is œ15-18 and a good LBS will fit it for freep.
