first time post but looking for some advice/views so feedback much appreciated.

After 5 years with my current bike I'm looking to upgrade to either:

Ribble Nero Corsa Carbon spec'd up with a Chorus groupset and MAvic ES wheels (just over œ2k), or..
Wilier Mortirolo with Chrous g/set (œ2,200)

I feel the ribble frame seems better value and allows me to build a bike to my spec...but I don't know too much about it. The Wilier is a stunning frame but I would not, ideally, want the Fulcrum R5 wheels/other finishing kit that it comes with.

Anyone any views on the ribble as I've not seen any reviews of that frame!

Thanks

  • Apparently CW are doing a test due out in a few weeks, I have seen the frame in the shop and it looks stunning, apparently a few other manufacturers are using the same frame so if you search for Deda Nero Corsa you might be able to find a write up or 2 about it!

just found this on cyclingnews.com but doesnt tell you much..
Dedacciai has another carbon fibre frameset for 2007 - the attractive Nero Corsa. A monocoque model with beautifully shaped tubes in high modulus carbon fibre, the Nero Corsa includes an integrated headtube that weighs in at a reported 1050g.

Thanks for that. I know that Kona do a œ2k road bike that uses that exact frame but has a spec similar to the œ1,100 ribble ultegra equipped...so the Ribble seems a bargain when compared to that

    thanks again
  • I have the Ribble Nero carbon and its fantastic, I've had it for about 2 months now and can't fault the frame... That said (here we go...) I'm about to ride this bike from Seattle to New York (see my blog)http://seattle2newyork.blogspot.com/ and have had a couple of issues with Ribble getting ready to go. Firstly I thought I would get some spare spokes for my Askiums as they are non-standard bladed. Ribble (don't bother emailing they are terrible at replying, just phone until you get through) just plain said they couldn't help!

Bearing in mind they were quite happy to sell me the œ1k bike you would have thought they might want to do some after sales support.

Eventually i found some on ebay - the guys email is Georgehallscycle (AT) aol.com

Next while adjusting the seat height I managed to strip both bolts on the Deda seat clamp - the bolt is aluminium and I didn't force it - I think its just a bit crap. As its a non standard size (35.8m) I phoned Ribble and am now paying for another to come in time for America (this Fri) normally I would have argued the toss and tried to get it replaced due to shoddy build quality but I haven't the time. I'm going to also get a campag spare - the only other clamp I can find of that dimension.

So to sum up - great bike, truly terrible after sales.

I'll let you know how it stands up to 3500miles in 5.5 weeks (eurgh)

    btw - i got a 105 tripple...

    cheers

I'm considering buying this frame on its own. How easy would it be to get one with no decals? I think it looks great without them (having seen an advert for the frame).

Oh dear God, the Wilier no question! Ping AcademicX and 2191flint who are also proud Mortirolo owners. I've got the Centaur version (couldn't afford Chorus) and it is by far and away the best bike I have ever ridden, I'm completely in love with it. Light, fast, responsive and a great climber.

Look at buying it from Comobike, I think they'll let you spec it out as you want and you'll save money and their service is excellent.

There are 2 reviews here: http://www.wilierbikes.co.uk/wilier/wp.php?wpc=3

jash - you would say that as
    A) you are over the moon with your wilier and
B)you have financial backing to stick a set of Fulcrum0's on it!! (which makes it gorgeous by the way!)

but at œ2k all in with mavic ES's - you have to admit that it's a tempting proposition! - Chorus groupset - finishing kit exactly as you want - and the frame, while cheap, is made by deda so can't be all that duff.

as sweet looking as the wiliers are, I think the ribble would get my money - and in fact just might in the very near future.

Yeah, but I'd hardly be over the moon with my Wilier if it was cr@p would I! To be honest if I was spending 2k, I'd only look at bikes I could test ride otherwise it's a helluva gamble IMHO. Surely a good Wilier stockist should be able to build the frame up to your spec anyway?
