I got tar from a newly laid stretch of tarmac on my new carbon frame during the Polka Dot challenge. Any ideas how to get it off without damaging my frame. My bro suggested IPA as it is a weak solvent and should not be too harsh.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

  • I have used Zippo lighter fuel to get tar off my steel frame.
Wet a cloth and rub gently.
Don't know about carbon though , sorry

I'd second lighter fuel, I've used it on Carbon forks many times with no problems.

Had wipes from Halfrauds to remove tar spots and splated flies from the car paintwork . Work ideal on the caron bike as well ; no problems so far .

It's the same as tar on any other frame as it's on the clear laquer finish. Try some WD40 on a soft cloth - it has over 2000 uses [:D]
Well that's what is says on their web site [;)]
