Squeaking Speedplay Cleats

Does anyone know the best way to stop my Speedplay cleats from squeaking?
I clean them regularly and I've tried a number of different lubricants, but within a couple of hours they are squeaking again.

Cheers

  • I use whatever chain lube I'm slapping on at the time, usually that purplegold (?) stuff, have used white lightening dry lube (great for pedals, rubbish for chains), and grease the bearings from time to time, they never squeak. My cleats are however worn and wobbly which may help, if everything is new on your setup perhaps the tight intereferences are promoting squeaking.

Sell them on ebay - some unsuspecting fool with pay near-retail for them and then buy yourself something durable and non-squeaky like Time
  • Pedros white lightning about once a week and their pleasantly squeak free.

Monty does have a point though, i only changed to speedplay from time because i commute and their much easier to engage at junctions etc. Having said that i do quite like them now.

  • Can't really agree with you Monty, I've a pair on my winter bike and a pair on my good bike, they don't squeak, never have and I'm still on the original cleats which are a bit worn after 2 1/2 years but they'd be as bad/worse with any other system (Look would be trashed). The almost frictionless freefloat sorts a foot injury problem perfectly. Not everone likes them but I couldn't grumble about the quality aspect.

Thanks guys. I certainly don't agree with Monty. I think Speedplay pedals are some of the best designed pedals on the market.
