Restricting hours?

In another thread, driver fatigue was discussed.

After a coach trip at the weekend, I was chatting to the driver.

Professional drivers are restricted to the hours that they drive.

It would be illegal for a driver in his position to drive for several hours, work, and then drive for an extended number of hours. Yet some reps and others do exactly this.

Would there be a place for restricting the time spent driving in the same way as for professionals?

  • I read a report once that indicated the risk of a british rep dying in a road accident, which the report considered an industrial accident, was higher than the risk of a very low income miner in south america dying in an industrial accident.

So yes, this is a very real problem.

Most sales reps log their business mileage for tax reasons (it is a company car tax benefit thing) so on a company car you could always install a tacometer.

I actually like this idea because it would also force fuel efficiency and have positive carbon footprint issues.

it's the same as a person working a 10 hour day coming home hooking up the caravan to the car and heading to the south of France

Why bother? Just allow them to accelerate out og their fatigue!

Indeed, there's a way to cut coach deaths.....
