Ceramic rims

I've used ceramic rims on my MTB for a while and really like them. I've run the same set of wheels for 7 years of moderate XC use and they are the only set that have stood up to the v-brake munching.
Couple of questions:
1. I assume it's the same deal on a road bike that you must use ceramic specific brake blocks. Will the ceramic specific brake blocks work alright on non-ceramic rims too?
2. How do you clean the ceramic surface when it eventually gets caked up?
3. Are there any other hard waring rim technologies?

I have used ceramic blocks on my ceramic rims but I'm not aware that you have to. Normal blocks work well with ceramics and I believe that ceramic blocks may only provide an advantage in the wet.0

That's interesting - must be something to do with road brake block compounds being fairly 'hard'?
It's definately not the case with MTB's, the brake compound melts and gums up the ceramic coating making it useless.
