Where are the holes? Maybe they are just rubbing against your cranks which will make holes in any overshoe? If the holes are in the bottom then buy some with pre-cut bottoms front and back.0

yeh i have a pre cut hole for the cleat, but the unplanned holes are where the little heel stub is and at the front of the shoe...not impressed!...does lycra wear like this?

Aah - of course any lycra overshoe is going to wear. You could try something like DeFeet oversocks, but best not to walk around in them!0

When you put your foot down at traffic lights, try to put your cleat down rather than your toes, any but the toughes winter overshoes will wear if you do this.0

cheers...appreciate it...anybody got a link that you recommend?

Hang on - its lovely out there at the moment ? I havent worn overshoes for aaaages - and lycra is no use for warmth. I just prefer to wear sturdier MTB shoes in winter.0

Would a pair of cotton socks with a cut hole in for the cleat do the same job as the "lycra" more expensive ones?

Used to be very popular to do this in the olden days, but it was cack and you'd end up locked into your cleats as the sock had jammed the pedal.
If you're cold in June - what are you gonna be like come November ?
Get some winter MTB Boots now I reckon.0
