can any one help me find a cycling friendly map
i want to ride from bexleyheath ,kent. to downham market, norfolk
but can only find routes for cars?

    Do you want to "plan" or "ride"?

    www.sustrans.org has OS level maps for planning, but aren't practicable for navigation.



    Goldeneye are less detailed than Ordnance Survey, and more detailed than road mapping. They are also waterproof, but there is also a problem as coverage is not national.

    A decent road atlas will usually do the job.

    As Cunobelin says check out the Sustrans website to see if there are any cycle specific routes available which might be helpful but mostly I use road maps (designed for cars- the road atlas style, they're cheap in budget book shops and charity shops when out of date) and look for B roads and minor roads to follow.
    You can also go on A roads of course, it sort of depends on your confidence and the threshold where traffic becomes a nuisance/pain/danger.
    The more you do these kind of rides or tours, the more you can get the feel of which road is a pleasure to ride on and which isn't.
    Don't know that particular corner of the UK myself but I would say that planning a route does give me a lot of pleasure and it has been a slow self-taught process, go for it and have an adventure!
