Hello All ,
Hope you don't mind me butting in here , I've just happened across this forum and a thread re. compact chainsets , ( which I've now lost ! [:o)]so will start a new thread here ) I'm just about to go down this route myself when (..and if ) a new Record groupset turns up on my doorstep . Sometime soon I hope .
My question is this : can I get hold of a 52 or 53t ring and nail it onto the pitch circle of the Campag CT ? I saw a picture of a 52 / 34 set on some web page not too long ago which displayed the fact that it's been done . The rings were by Campagnolo to boot . The pics' were obviously taken at a trade fair in the last year or so . I'm musing about what happened ? In the last few weeks of shopping for parts to build my new bike I haven't come across any info' whatever re. the availability of this combination . The stuff that's coming my way has the 50/34 combo' , which'll be fine with the 12-25 at the back . Yet, .... I live in the pennines and every ride is up a hill which , I confess , I plod up . ( and zoom down again afterwards ! ) The set-up I use at present is the 53/39 and an 11 - 28 block on the back , ( Marchisio ) which I find to be just right . The thing is, I suspect that I'll miss that 53 / 11 tooth combo. and will likely be changing the campagnolo block for the more flexible Marchisio . But where in heck can I get hold of the bigger chainring that'll fit the CT ?

Stronglight? They do make rings specifically for Campagnolo CT. Why don't you just go with the normal 135bcd double?

Because I'm getting old ( and fat )and have been considering a triple for awhile now . Then the Campag compact arrived and I think that's just the thing to get me up the hills now .
I've just had a looksee on the Stronglight site and it looks like 50 is the top on a 110 bcd . As yet , I expect it's only a matter of time before they up it a few teeth . I hope so at least .

Well, so they do ! I'd quite forgotten TA were still about .
[:)] Thanks very much for the tip . I must remember that .
I wonder now if there might be a problem re. the compatibility of Campag nuts and bolts taking a ring designed for a triple set . Or shouldn't it make a difference ?
