tyre longevity

I bought a set of continental gator skins in January this year and have yet to clock 2000 miles but this week have picked up 4 p*******s. The 3rd was probably due to a stone chip embeddded in the tyre which I overlooked when checking ( was pouring with rain) after the 2nd p*******.
The last 2 were today and have both holed the first 2 of a batch of new Vittoria inner tubes, coincidence perhaps. Anyway I'm wondering if I should replace the tyres.

Have you switched to the new Vittoria Evo lightweight butyl tubes by any chance? I did and suffered a spate of five punctures in three weeks.0

My GP4000 25cs have been great, and survived some pretty nasty roads.
I heard that, as with all tyres, 80% of the problems occur in the last 20% of the tyre life.... so if they're wearing thin, consider it.
The 4000s have tread wear indicators to let you know when they need changing.
The GP4000 Vectran breaker belt/canvas seems to do the trick in keeping out the sharp items.
Been riding on my GP4000-S last week, and they're noticably even-more grippy.0 -
I had a spare Vittoria rubino lying around from my old bike, red walled so doesn't match the Gios blue but will have to do fot now. More importantly the new inner tubes are the Vittoria Evo lightweight butyl ones as mentioned by The Raucous Auk, so are these to be avoided I wonder, anyone else experienced problems ?0

if i had a better signature, i'd use that insteadriding on my bicycle, i saw a motorcrash…0 -
In my experience, one bad cut on the circumference of a tyre CAN be enough to get it replaced - even if the tyre's nearly new. Otherwise you can get repeated punctures, very frustrating. As a rule of thumb, I'd say to replace the tyre when you get a third puncture in the same place.0
