brake levers

Hi,

I was in Halfrauds yesterday and they had an 06 Vanquish for œ399. Looked pretty good 105 readmech and tiagra changers. One problem though I have small hands and they didn't feel comfortable on the changers. Can someone explain how these changers work they seemed to have two levers that I could move and whether there are any smaller changers out there. Like the bike, but no good if I can't hold on tothe handle bars...

cheers,

Were you having trouble with the changers from the hoods or from the drops? I believe you can adjust the angle of the levers with some spacers to make it easier to reach them from the drops. I think from the short test ride I had on a tiagra shifter equipped bike that theres a small lever behind the brake lever and you push that towards the centre of the handlebars to shift gear one way and then press the whole brake lever and little lever together toward the centre of the handle bars to shift the otherway.

I suspect its more comfortable to spend more of your time with your hands on the hoods of the brake levers
  • It was when I was on the drops.

I have found myself, and read comments in - I think it was Cycling Weekly to say that the Shimano levers require slightly more reach compared to Campag.

You will find with Campag. levers that you don't need to swing them so far over, and the lever is shorter in length too.
Also, you get a thumb button for downshifting.

All in all, I find the Campag. levers better.

RE:DavidTQ's comment - I too have read that you can put shims in to reduce the lever reach on the drops.

I believe Shimano also make some levers which are reach adjustable - poss. Tiagra?
