I've just done my first big organised ride
Done the Northern Rock Cyclone today, done the 62 mile in 4:43, which whilst it's not blistering pace, is better than I expected to do. It's the first time I've done anything like that, and I really enjoyed every minute of it, even the climb at the Ryals, which had me weaving a bit.
A good day all round, and a very well organised event. I'll be back next year.

Well done! How did you find riding in a group? I'm doing my first organised ride next week and I'm a bit nervous about riding in a big group, as I usually ride on my own. I hope I don't make any big mistakes and p everyone off - do you have any tips for riding in the group?0

I didn't hang on to any of the big groups long enough to find out! It was a good day out with my dad though, I hope I'm as fit as he is when I'm 50.

Paul, I also did the ride today and I thought that it was extremely well organised. I did the 100 miler which I found pretty tough going as the pace was quite high. I'll definately be back next year too for more pain, great fun.

Cheers Steve.
Craig, what where the climbs like on the 100? The 62 was undualating, but apart from the ryals (i think that's what they're called), there were no real killers. I reckon the 100 may have been a different story though

Paul, to be honest the climbs weren't too bad. The longer climbs were at a reasonable gradient which meant that it was possible to stay seated and build a rythm up. I ended up having to get off the bike and push at one point as I had really bad cramp in my left leg, criminal pushing a bike best it doesn't happen again [:D] At least I ended up with a reasonable time which goes some way to making up for it.

Don't panic, it is the same as riding alone but with a wheel in front of you and it is easier [:D]
Ride behind wheel, not alongside so you don't collide.
If some one is in front on a climb do not get too close because if they get out of saddle to climb, they will slow a little and you may hit the back wheel.
No sudden changes of direction.
Call out for on coming cars, if cars on left, pedestrians etc.
Common sense stuff really.
Oh and careful blowing you nose, some one may be behind you [:D]

Does anyone know if the photographs that were taken on the way out, and the return leg, will be available to buy?
