I need to change my chainrings as the they are worn. The Tiagra triple rings that are on there are now obsolete and cannot be sourced, so i am going to upgrade to 105. I will need to change the BB for a spined one. They come in two axle lengths. Do i need the 116mm one for a triple chainset?

So many roads, so little time!!!

  • You could get a new 105 chain set which will be a hollowtech II with outboard BB bearing cups (cost about œ22). I think it is worth upgrading to Hollowtech II if you are buying a new chainset and BB anyway. The outboard bearings make for a much stiffer BB. I upgraded the chainset / BB on my Dawes Audax to Ultegra Hollowtech II for œ150 fitted - a great improvement. Only thing is you probably should get the bottom bracket shell refaced by the LBS (cost œ10 to œ15). As for BB width, this will be determined by using the right combination of spacers.
