Hello,

I have Shimano Tiagra 9 speed brake levers. Is there any way to adjust the reach of the lever in the way you can with MTB brake levers?

I'm happy how they are when riding on the hoods but I'd like the levers to be a bit closer to the bar when riding on the drops.

Rob

There's no adjustment on Tiagra unfortunately. If you alter the angle of them, so they're pointing inwards more, rather than straight ahead, it may make it easier to reach when on the drops.

    There is according to Shimano.

shows that there are adjusting pads available for Tiagra that change the reach. These are as follows
    Y-6LP 87000 R.H. Adjustment Block (8 degrees)
    Y-6LP 87010 L.H. Adjustment Block (8 degrees)
    Y-6LP 86000 R.H. Adjustment Block (4 degrees)

  • Those are for the 4500 model. I have a 4400 I believe. I reckon I could make a wedge that would achieve the same result though. Thanks for the tips.

I am thinking of changing to a bar with a more traditional curved handle rather that the Ritchy Bio Max bar I currently have. I think a larger 'hook' would allow me to get my hand closer to the lever. The Biomax bar has a tight hook and then a bend to fit into the palm. For a natural resting position, my hand is then further away from the brak lever.

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">I had the same problem reaching the levers from the drops on my ITM 330 anatomical bars, albeit with Campag levers. After lot of trial and error with Bontrager Race Lite VR bars, I eventually found a combination of lever position / bar rotation where I can reach the levers and still keep the hoods nearly level. I think the Bontrager womens FIT VR bars might be better for me because of the smaller drop but the current set-up is good enough I don't want to become obsessive.[:)]

I asked for advice on this forum and many people recommended 3TTT Morpheus bars (the 3TTT website details their dimensions). They are worth a look.
