Carbon Seatpin

Carbon is supposed to be more comfortable, however it comes with the durability caveat that you don't want to hang something like a seatpost rack off it, and need to be careful torquing it up to avoid cracking it.
You'll also need to put some carbon seatpost compatible grease on it. I've been advised to occasionally move it just to stop it seizing in the frame.
Physics would suggest that a seatpost with a lay-back top would be more shock absorbant than one slapped right on top.
Both my carbon posts are fitted with a second small clamp to act as a guide, and to stop it sliding in the seat-tube.0 -
If you're interested I have a planet-x carbon seatpost that I no longer use (as I use a saddlebag). I think it was origionally 60 or 50 squid, it's seen little use but is a bit scuffed. PM me if you are interested.

How about the Specialized ones with Zertz inserts. I have both versions and have no complaints about comfort. 100km is about my maximum in a day.
However for durability or MTB it would probably be better to go for Al alloy.0
