The gryphon has the right eyelets but it also has disc brakes. You'll struggle to get conventional muddies to fit. (I've looked at one as a potential winter commuter - but come across the self same problem).

Carrera 2 subway is apparently (one of) only bike with disk brakes to be able to take pannier racks as standard.

Just realised that ALL Halfords bikes 10% off til close of play Monday (Bike Week thing). I reckoned Gryphon pretty good vfm at 380 - at 340 surely a deal?
Might go and get one tomorrow!
