A2 Convoy?

Cycling home at about 7.30 last night I noticed, on one of the increasingly frequent looks over my shoulder, a police bike with its lights on (but no siren) tearing down the A2 just after Surrey Quays tube station. Stopped in the middle of the junction there holding up traffic. Another check behind just as another police bike flies past me as some insane speed. Shortly after a convoy of unmarked police car (again, lights but no siren), a Daimler limo with blacked-out rear windows and a Range Rover also with black-out rear passenger windows but with a big "Keep Back" LED display in the rear windscreen.
Did anyone else see this? If so any ideas? Can only think it must be some VVIP given the serious police escort, being taken through red lights and on one occasion that I saw on the wrong side of the road.
Was too busy keeping out of the way to notice the plates or any other usual markings.
Yours curiously...

Probably a Royal.
Really annoys me getting pushed off the road in Edinburgh just because party Andy is on his way to the golf, or whatever.

I was stopped by one of these on the Mall yesterday morning, then got stopped again by the same convoy a few minutes later on Embankment. So even if you have a police escort to bully your way through the traffic you will still be slower then a bike!
Slightly annoyed that government ministers (assuming they are ministers) are allowed to bypass the gridlock that their own (lack of) transport policies have created. They should be forced to sit in the jams like everyone else...

that convoy sounds like Blair
standard ministers don't get such a big convoy, and the royals normally have a bigger one!
i think....

I was on the M6 when a police convoy including some armed police (I think) moved everyone over to the inside lane so a prison van could go up the outside lane. Must have been someone they were worried would get sprung.0

In West (due to Heathrow) and Central London you see these all the time. It is usually Blair. One though I saw going past had lots of fat people I didnt recognise. Senior Yanks (CIA?) maybe.
They take different routes to avoid setting a pattern ("ah that Mr Blair is flying in from Bahrain, lets set a car bomb") and hence end up down some rather odd routes. The artist formally known as boring old fart0 -
It probably wouldn't have been any of the Royals - they tend to have lower profile convoys (2 outriders on m/bikes, car carrying the member of the Royal family and one escort car).
What you've described sounds to me like either Blair or a foreign 'dignitary' (e.g. an American) as they like such ostentatious cavalcades.
