Noticed that the rear bearings on my Ambrosio/Formula/System EX track hubs are showing a little play - anyone know the bearing spec such that I can order some new ones? -Tried e-mailing Formula themselves but obviously they're not interested in customer service

Any bearing factor will be able to help you, and they will possibly be cheaper as well.

Yes, I know that but apart from pulling my hub apart, I need to know the spec i.e. ODxIDxthickness - there's nothing on the bearing seal

Are Formula and Ambrosio the same?
In my Ambrosio track hubs the bearings are 6000 C3.
    Think OD,ID & thickness = 26,10 & 8mm

my system-ex hubs have 6000LB's in them at the moment. have also used 6000-2RS, and another type besides iirc.

...which is why I take the old ones...... My bearing supplier measures them up for me.

Took the hub apart and they are indeed 6000 series i.e. 10mm ID x 26mm OD x 8mm thickness. Looked around and managed to find some stainless ones on ebay for œ2.70 each. See how I get on - ceramic ones are œ15 so maybe an upgrade for the future?

Quick update - new bearing fitted last night - and only takes about 10 minutes and what a huge difference - greenandypants ebay seller - 2x S6000RS bearings for œ6 when other places are selling for œ15 each. Recommended upgrade for all those Formula/System EX/Ambrosio/Planet-X track hubs out there!

Thanks for the pointer, Monty. No doubt mine would benefit after a year of all weather abuse - it's one of those things that you might as well do given the cost.

I've got System Ex hubs, and while the bearings are fine, could one of you fine gentlemen run me through the procedure for removing and replacing the bearings (for when I need to...)?
    Thx

Easy- remove the nuts and cones. Hit one end of the axle firmly and it will pop-out complete with opposite bearing. Use a hammer and drift to knock-out the other bearing - they are only press-fit. Knock the other bearing off the axle. Clean and grease all mating surfaces. Press one bearing into the hub shell - I used a rubber mallet and a spare socket - slide the axle through and start to fit the bearing into the other side. Press the bearings into place making sure they're flush on both sides - job done!
