lower FD for compact
Hi
I got a new bike and had the shop change the cranks from 53/39 to compact 50/34. First problem was they didnt shorten the chain. Got that fixed now, however chain is still dropping when i change from small to big ring (and vice versa). I'm now wodering whether they didnt bother lowering the FD as well (does anyone know by how much i need to lower it...???). On my old bike (running 53/39) the chain runs to less than 1 cm from the FD, in big/big; whereas it is more like 2.5cm on the compact.
Looks easy enough to alter mysel, or should i let a pro do it ...?
Thanks for any advice

cage should be about 3mm from the big ring.
or more specifically, the lower edge of the outer cage should be about 3mm from the teeth points on the big ring.
Compacts sometimes need to be a bit further away from the teeth compared to regular doubles, to help the shifting.

It's easy enough to do it yourself, but you'll also need to re-tension the cable. Look at the Park Tools website to see whether you feel confident enough to do it.
