Good to see they're taking advantage of a possible surge of interest in road cycling, and I'm sure the bikes will be of fine quality and good value.
The chances of your average punter being sold the right size, and set up of bike are somewhat remote though! [}:)][;)]

I'm sure they'll fit suspension if you ask nicely.

I doubt it. It's still Halfords bikes with his name stuck on the tubes, which i am sure Halfords wouldn't sell for such prices if it were bare or the name Bikehut or Halfords on the tubes. Pah! [xx(]

SIZE IS EVERYTHING! or at least that's what my LBS tells me.

halfords don't MAKE the carrera range (they have exclusive uk distribution rights) so they won't be making boardman's either. can't think of anyone wanting to spend œ1400 on a bike from halfords, but as the current top range carrera is a very good bike for the money, if i had that sort of cash to spend i'd have a look at least to see what i could get.

the issue with halfords is not the bikes they sell, but the monkies with hammers that put them together. one lbs virtually makes a living fixing bikes that halfords put together poorly when bought.

if i had a better signature, i'd use that instead
riding on my bicycle, i saw a motorcrash…

Now, now. Let's give them a chance. I'm sure they'll be built with the high-quality tubing we're used to seeing on <s>Apalling</s> Apollo bikes: http://tinyurl.com/2uxc7v

  • It all depends on the actual maker. A few years ago the top end Carrera frames, road and mtb, were made by Merida - and the road won best for a grand in C+ and ditto the mtb in WMB. They were excellent value. Deal broke over price and Merida starting to sell under own name in UK.

Boardman only the latest in a long line of "famous" cyclists to sell their name: Barry Hobans used to sell through Littlewoods Catalogue as far as I know. I don't think he built them.

Judge 'em WHEN you've seen 'em, I reckon!

So who makes the Halfords bikes now? I'm a little confused, as there's another recent thread on here saying that their machines are decent (the Carrera ones, I guess Apollo are the low end stuff?)

My bike's knackered, but compared to its owner it's in good nick...

It's just a hill. Get over it.

This tri site says the bikes will be 'high spec', and better value than the equivalent Spesh, Giants etc. Will be interesting to see the range.

No idea! Probably a number of different frame suppliers.

"I'm a little confused, as there's another recent thread on here saying that their machines are decent (the Carrera ones,..."

Their low and mid-range stuff (not basement Apollos, though probably just as good/bad as owt else at that price) seem to me to be highly competitve. They dropped the grand and over stuff after splitting from Merida I think. I'm not sure that their return to the upper middle price stuff will suceed: there's a lot of prejudice against the name - as often displayed on here!

There are many punters who will happily pay 500-600 quid for a sticky label on a frame!
